Our Hospitals

The Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship Program at the University of Miami / Jackson Memorial Hospital includes rotations at 3 distinctive training institutions, which are geographically contiguous on the same medical campus. This includes Jackson Memorial Hospital (a public hospital for the residents of Miami-Dade County), the Miami Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and the University of Miami Hospital (a private, university-based facility). Each institution offers full cardiovascular services including clinical cardiovascular and cardiac intensive care, noninvasive cardiac imaging including echocardiography, cardiac nuclear imaging, and coronary CT angiography, and invasive procedures including cardiac catheterization and percutaneous coronary and peripheral interventions, and cardiac surgery with an exposure to a unique patient population covering a vast array of cardiovascular pathology.

Jackson Memorial Hospital (JMH) is an accredited, non-profit, tertiary care hospital and the major teaching facility for the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. With more than 1,550 licensed beds, Jackson Memorial Hospital is a referral center, a magnet for medical research, and home to Ryder Trauma Center.  JMH is also home to the Miami Transplant Institute with an active cardiac transplant and LVAD program.

The 560-bed facility formerly known as Cedars Medical Center was renamed University of Miami Hospital after it was purchased by the University of Miami and became the region’s first university-owned, multi-specialty, acute care hospital and the flagship facility of UHealth – University of Miami Health System. Cardiologists on the faculty of the Miller School of Medicine partner with community physicians to plan and provide care, investigate new treatments, participate in clinical research, and utilize the most advanced technologies available including TAVR, ablation for arrhythmias, and stem cell therapies.

Our parent facility is the Bruce W. Carter Department of VA Medical Center which opened in 1968, operates 432 hospital beds, and is an accredited comprehensive medical provider and tertiary referral facility with a recognized Chest Pain Center, providing PCI, open-heart surgery and other specialty services to other VA facilities in Florida and the country.
