Fellows’ Introductory Lecture Series 

Introductory lectures are given by the faculty at the beginning of the academic year in July and August.  The introductory lectures are incorporated into the other lecture/conferences and consists of a series of lectures that cover various disciplines and keys topics in general cardiology, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, and heart failure, as well as research. All fellows and faculty are expected to attend this conference regularly.  It is open to any member of the student body, house staff, or faculty or other services who wish to attend.

EP/EKG Conference 

Day and Time: Mondays from 12:00 – 1:00 pm 

Location: JMH C403 Conference Room 

A formal part of all fellows’ curriculum and a central part of the EPS rotation.  Basic concepts of electrophysiology are presented by attendings weekly.  Once per month the fellow on the EP/EKG rotation presents EKG conference.  All fellows and faculty are expected to attend this conference regularly.  It is open to any member of the student body, house staff, or faculty or other services who wish to attend.

Cardiology Journal Club / Research / & Angio Club Conference 

Day and Time: Tuesdays from 12:00 – 1:00 pm 

Location: Location varies

The topics covered will rotate on a weekly basis so that all four topics are covered over a one month period. All fellows are expected to attend these conferences regularly.  Sessions are open to any member of the student body, house staff, or faculty or other services who wish to attend. Research Club: Once monthly, two fellows present their ongoing research for review and revision by faculty, as well as fellows.  Each fellow will present in research conference at least three times during the 36 month fellowship training to get regular feedback on their ongoing projects.  

Journal Club: occurs once monthly, and is presented by one of the fellows’ reviewing a current major journal article. The conference proceeds like any other conference on methodology, but with a heavier emphasis on the limits of interpretation of data and clinical applicability of the data to our patient population, visit maid easy az.   

Angio Review Club: Occurs once monthly, seminar is given by the fellows along with an interventional cardiology faculty member.  An informal review of cath lab cases, including cine films, hemodynamic data, as well as interesting case presentations and morbidity and mortality.  The major aim of this seminar is to help fellows develop skills to recognize anatomic variances, read coronary angiograms, and develop an insight on hemodynamic evaluation of various cardiac conditions (including pitfalls).  

Cardiac Device Lectures: Lastly, monthly lectures pertaining to the understanding of implantable devices (pacemakers, defibrillators, CRT) are given by the various cardiac device companies and members of the EP division. More information about cleaning franchises for sale.   The goal of this lecture series is to provide fellows with the skills to interrogate a cardiac device, understand the information given to you, and troubleshoot as needed.

“Topics in Cardiology” Grand Rounds

Day and Time: Wednesdays from 7:30 – 8:30 pm 

Location: University of Miami Hospital Seminar Center.  

Grand Round lectures are given by UM faculty, 2nd & 3rd year Cardiovascular Fellows, or visiting faculty.  Topics range from clinical topics that fall within the core curriculum to basic science lectures that fall within the basic science curriculum.All fellows and faculty are expected to attend this conference regularly.  It is open to any member of the student body, house staff, or faculty or other services who wish to attend.

2nd & 3rd year Cardiovascular Fellows present 1 topic/year on a topic of their choosing using a case-based presentation format as the basis for their review. A faculty member will assist to prepare and review the case presentation and discussion.  Fellows are encouraged to integrate board-style multiple choice questions into their presentation and use the electronic Audience Response System to encourage audience participation.

 Cardiology Multimodality Imaging Conference

 Day and Time: Thursday from 12:00 to 1:00 pm

Location: JMH C403 Conference Room 

Throughout the year, both faculty and fellows present on a variety of topics in cardiovascular imaging including echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, physiologic testing, and cardiac CT and MR.  All fellows and faculty are expected to attend this conference regularly.  It is open to any member of the student body, house staff, or faculty or other services who wish to attend.

“Week in Review” Conference

 Day and Time: Fridays from 7:00 – 8:00 pm 

Location: University of Miami Hospital 5th Floor Conf Room C 

A case based review of the weeks most interesting cases and topics. Led by the CCU/Consult fellows and the cardiology program director.   All fellows and faculty are expected to attend this conference regularly.  It is open to any member of the student body, house staff, or faculty or other services who wish to attend.
